Abstract
Starting from the premise that translation is an integral part of psychoanalytic work, we propose a journey that leads first to examine how the question of translation is approached by both Freud and Lacan, moving on in a second moment to confront certain points addressed by theorists of literary translation (Berman, Meschonnic, etc.). The famous clinical example of Serge Leclaire’s “dream of the unicorn” with its exclamation Poor d’ Je Li opens the door to the conception of a beyond translation, for which we propose the term transduction. It is not a question of a translation from one language to another or from one system to another, this being a punctual and discrete element of the unconscious, but of a change of register that marks a qualitative difference in the action of the psychoanalyst in his access to the unconscious by way of that which operates on the frontier of signification.
